Angevine Sensei

Angevine Sensei has been involved with the Ki Society for over 30 years, beginning in 1974. He has been trained with various Sensei's including Koichi Tohei, Founder of Ki Society International. His studies have taken him all over the world including, Portland Oregon, California, Hawaii, and Japan. Angevine Sensei founded the Calgary Ki Society which was the first Ki Society established in Canada. Angevine Sensei had found out about Aikido though books such as Ki in Daily Life by Koichi Tohei, and from there he went to the California Ki Society in 1974 with his wife, Sheila. Soon after instructors from California recommended a Ki Society for Calgary. Together with the California and the Oregon Ki Society the Calgary Ki Society was formed in 1975. The Calgary Ki Society started as a small group working in the University of Calgary and the YMCA. They opened their own Dojo (training hall) in 1984 on Morley Trail NW and moved to Edmonton Trail NE in 1998. In March 2005 the Calgary Ki Society moved into its newly purchased Dojo in the Deerfoot Industrial Park just south of the Deerfoot Mall. Angevine Sensei trains and continues to move Calgary Ki Society forward. He holds the Ki rank of Joden and is a Full Lecturer in the Ki Society International.
David English Sensei
Rank: Sandan (3rd Degree Blackbelt)

David English has been involved with the Ki Society since 1978, beginning his training in Fort McMurray. He came to Calgary in 1987, and has been a strong member of the Calgary Ki Society since then. He has recieved all his Aikido training through the Ki Society, having studied not only in Calgary and Fort McMurray, but also Portland, Hawaii, and Japan under Tohei Sensei himself. He has also trained at the Vancouver Ki Society; members from Vancouver often train in Calgary, and members from Calgary often train in Vancouver, making the two Ki Societies closely related. He earned his 1st degree black belt, Shodan in 1993, his 2nd degree, Nidan in 1997, and his 3rd degree in 2004, Sandan. English Sensei has also earned 2 Ki ranks, Shoden in Portland, and Chuden in Japan under Tohei Sensei. He also spent a month in Japan, and took a week to train at the Ki Society headquarters located there. He can be found teaching regular Children and Adult classes, and also partaking in the programs himself. English Sensei says the use of Ki has made huge changes in his life, and all for the better. He is an Assistant Lecturer in the Ki Society International.
Mike Koper Sensei

Koper Sensei has been involved with the Calgary Ki Society for many years, beginning his training in 1994. He has recieved all his Aikido training through the Ki Society, having studied not only in Calgary, but also Portland and Hawaii under Tohei Sensei himself. He has also trained at the Vancouver Ki Society; members from Vancouver often train in Calgary, and members from Calgary often train in Vancouver, making the two Ki Societies closely related. He originally joined the Calgary Ki Society to help with his job as a ski instructor and coach for Alpine Ski Racing, hoping to increase his balance and movement abilities. As of May 2004, Koper Sensei has completed his 1st Ki test, earning the Shoden rank (a Ki rank not to be confused with his Shodan blackbelt level). Koper Sensei can be found teaching programs of the Calgary Ki Society, and also partaking in the nightly programs himself. He has discovered a myriad of benefits from his time in the Ki Society including the improved abilities of balance, movement, and calmness which he originally sought, and much more. In November 2006 he earned the rank of Nidan in Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido. He is an Assistant Lecturer in the Ki Society International.
Dianne
Rogowski Sensei

Rogowski Sensei has been involved with the Calgary Ki Society since 2002, after several false starts in getting to the dojo (English Sensei enjoys telling this story to any who will listen!). She has received all of her Aikido training through the Ki Society, having studied not only in Calgary, but also in Portland under Tabata Sensei, and in Japan under Shinichi Tohei Sensei. She earned her Shodan and Jokyu ranks in May of 2008. She has also trained at the Vancouver Ki Society; members from Vancouver often train in Calgary, and members from Calgary often train in Vancouver, making the two Ki Societies closely related. Rogowski Sensei is currently directly involved with the Vancouver Ki Society as a remote student in their Kiatsu program. Rogowski Sensei can be found teaching regular classes in the Children's program and occasional Adult classes, and also partaking in the nightly classes herself. She has discovered that the use of Ki principles has had a positive impact on all aspects of her life, including in her job as a pediatric emergency nurse. She is an Assistant Lecturer in the Ki Society International.
Patrick Gradson Sensei
Patrick Gradson was one of the longest and most respected instructors of the Calgary Ki Society. Sadly he passed in November 2004. Click for a Remembrance of Patrick
